1. Tönnies scheitert mit Vion-Übernahme!
In den vergangenen Monaten hatten wir vielfältige Proteste gegen die Übernahme der verbliebenen deutschen Vion-Standorte durch Tönnies organisiert, darunter Kundgebungen, eine Großdemo und eine Besetzung der Schlachtfabrik in Crailsheim.
Nun hat das Bundeskartellamt die Übernahme tatsächlich untersagt. Zahlreiche Schlachthöfe sowie fleisch- und lederverarbeitende Betriebe in Süddeutschland werden nicht durch Tönnies übernommen.
„Die Übernahme der Vion-Standorte hätte die Marktposition von Tönnies zum Nachteil der Landwirtinnen und Landwirte und der verbleibenden kleineren Wettbewerber in den betroffenen Regionen bedenklich verstärkt“, heißt es in einer Pressemitteilung. Ob das Kartellamt diese Entscheidung auch ohne den öffentlichen Druck durch die Proteste und zahlreiche Kartellamtsbeschwerden gefällt hätte, ist ungewiss.
Sicher ist, die Entscheidung ist ein deutlicher Rückschlag für Expansionskurs des Tönnies-Konzerns. Mit dem Kauf der Vion-Betriebe wollte Europas größter Schlachtkonzern auch größter Rinderschlachter Deutschlands werden.
Unklar ist derweil, wie es mit dem ehemaligen Vion-Betrieben weitergeht. Wir fordern die Schließung der Schlachthöfe und Fleischfabriken und die Umwidmung der Betriebe für eine sozial gerechte, ökologische und pflanzenbasierte Lebensmittelproduktion.

Trotz Regen, Polizei & Tönnies: Wir waren laut – für Tiere, Menschen & Umwelt!
Am 29.03. haben wir mit unserer Regionalgruppe Bayern in Waldkraiburg mit rund 200 Menschen ein starkes Zeichen gesetzt – gegen die bis dahin geplante Übernahme des Vion-Schlachthofs durch den Konzernriesen Tönnies. Unsere Botschaft war klar: Diese Übernahme darf nicht passieren! Schluss mit der ausbeuterischen Tierindustrie!
Vergesellschaftung der betroffenen Betriebe – raus aus den Händen von Großkonzernen!
Umbau auf pflanzliche und nachhaltige Produktion!
Schluss mit Konzernherrschaft über unsere Ernährung!
Wir kritisieren ganz klar das Auftreten und Verhalten der Polizei, die unsere angemeldete und völlig friedliche Demo mit einem großen Aufgebot und Kameras begleitete. Gegen Ende wurde eine Person gekesselt und muss nun mit einer Anzeige wegen Vermummung rechnen – wegen einer medizinischen Maske. Das ist völlig unverhältnismäßig!

Blockade in Crailsheim am 14.04.2025
Am Montag, den 14. April haben wir mit 80 Aktivist*innen über fünf Stunden die Schlachtfabrik in Crailsheim blockiert, um ein Zeichen gegen die bis dahin geplante Tönnies-Übernahme zahlreicher Schlachthöfe vom Konkurrenten Vion in Süd- und Ostdeutschland zu setzen.
Wir sagen: Mit Tönnies und der Tierindustrie muss Schluss sein! Für eine solidarische & ökologische Agrar- & Ernährungswende!
Seit 7:30 Uhr hatten wir die Zufahrten und das Dach des Schlachthofs besetzt. Zahlreiche Aktivist*innen haben sich festgeklebt. Erst nach fünf Stunden ist es der Polizei mit vielen Einsatzkräften und dem Einsatz von Hebebühnen gelungen die Proteste zu beenden.
Die Aktion traf auf ein großes Medienecho. Berichte gab es in der Schwäbischen Zeitung, der Süd-West-Presse, beim SWR und anderen (siehe unseren Medienspiegel hier: https://gemeinsam-gegen-die-tierindustrie.org/presse/)

Radtour Landwirtschaft in Bewegung
Vom 07.-23 Mai waren wir zusammen mit Disrupt mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs, um Wege in eine andere Landwirtschaft zu suchen. Besuche bei Solidarischen Landwirtschaften und Gärtnereien, Vorträge, Diskussionen und auch Protestaktionen waren Teil des vielfältigen Programms. Auch Tönnies statteten wir einen kurzen Besuch ab.

1. Tönnies fails with Vion Takeover!
Over the past few months, we have organized a variety of protests against the takeover of the remaining German Vion sites by Tönnies, including rallies, a large demonstration and an occupation of the slaughterhouse in Crailsheim.
Now the Federal Cartel Office has actually prohibited the takeover. Numerous abattoirs and meat and leather processing companies in southern Germany will not be taken over by Tönnies.
“The takeover of the Vion sites would have strengthened Tönnies‘ market position to the detriment of farmers and the remaining smaller competitors in the affected regions,” reads a press release. It is uncertain whether the Cartel Office would have taken this decision without the public pressure caused by the protests and numerous Cartel Office complaints.
What is certain is that the decision is a clear setback for the expansion course of the Tönnies Group. With the purchase of the Vion operations, Europe’s largest slaughtering group also wanted to become Germany’s largest cattle slaughterer.
It is now unclear what will happen to the former Vion plants. We demand the closure of the slaughterhouses and meat factories and the rededication of the farms for socially just, ecological and plant-based food production.

Demo in Waldkraiburg on 29.03.2025
Despite rain, police & Tönnies: We were loud – for animals, people & the environment!
On March 29, we sent a strong signal with around 200 people from our Bavarian regional group in Waldkraiburg – against the Tönnies‘ until recently planned takeover of the Vion slaughterhouse. Our message was clear: this takeover must not happen! Put an end to the exploitative animal industry!
Socialization of the affected farms – out of the hands of large corporations!
Conversion to plant-based and sustainable production!
Stop corporate domination of our food!
We clearly criticize the appearance and behaviour of the police, who accompanied our registered and completely peaceful demonstration with a large contingent and cameras. Towards the end, one person was handcuffed and is now facing charges for wearing a mask – because of a medical mask. That is completely disproportionate!

Blockade in Crailsheim on 14.04.2025
On Monday, April 14th, 80 activists blockaded the slaughterhouse in Crailsheim for over five hours to make a statement against Tönnies‘ plan to take over numerous slaughterhouses from its competitor Vion in southern and eastern Germany.
We say: There must be an end to Tönnies and the animal industry! For a solidary and ecological agricultural and food revolution!
We had occupied the access roads and the roof of the slaughterhouse since 7:30 am. Numerous activists were glued to the roof. It was only after five hours that the police managed to end the protests by deploying a large number of officers and lifting platforms.
The action received a lot of media coverage. There were reports in the Schwäbische Zeitung, the Süd-West-Presse, SWR and others (see our media review here: https://gemeinsam-gegen-die-tierindustrie.org/presse/)

5. Disrupt Food System – what was and what is coming
Bike tour Agriculture on the move
From May 7th to 23rd we were on the road with Disrupt by bike to look for ways into a different agriculture. Visits to solidarity farms and market gardens, lectures, discussions and protest actions were all part of the varied program. We also paid a short visit to Tönnies.
